Let’s talk commitment and its importance. A while back in the month of July, I published a post called Journey Back to the Mat. Here, I chatted about my injury and my plan to get back into a routine and promised proof along the way.

That did not happen. I let distractions get in the way, along with my own mind.

A new commitment

I announced in my Facebook Live yesterday a new commitment. I have committed myself to 5 days a week on the mat and each day I will share a photo proving I am sticking to this commitment!

This is all in an effort to get back to where I was pre-injury never mind get back to the person I know I was just a few years ago. Committed to myself and in turn to others! There was a drive inside me that somehow, in the mess of life, got lost. I explain it as such; I found a shell and crawled into it! Check me if I’m wrong here, but most of us can relate to this I think?

Why am I sharing a photo each day?

Accountability! Because if YOU know that I am committed to myself, then for that reason, I need to prove to you that I am sticking to it. Simply put, YOU are now holding me accountable! Accountability is very noteworthy as it can help in staying on track with a commitment. It’s why you hear of a workout buddy being important, accountability.

So, who can keep you on track? Find that person, or use Social Media, start an accountability group, message me… do what it takes to stay committed.

Stress

If you’re having troubles keeping yourself committed it can cause massive amounts of stress. For example, all a person can now do is think about the lack of commitment and then, we beat ourselves up for not doing the thing we want to do! This is a type of stress. And, this can be a vicious cycle and how we end up in a shell!

Just start.

Start that book, start getting up earlier so you can enjoy a cup of coffee in peace, start that workout, start cooking a day a week. You see, it doesn’t matter what the THING is that you want to do. Just start and stay committed to it! Excuses creep in there, and the bed feels super comfy in the morning, almost all of the time our brain gets in the way.

Consequently though, it is all up to you. The biggest excuse being I don’t have the time. I use that one! And I have all the time in the world, I literally work from home. This is where scheduling comes into play (a topic for another day)

Do what you say.

Above all, do what you say. As you can see(if you read it) from the above mentioned blog post, I absolutely did not do what I said I was going to do. This is not good. This is how the wheels fall off and, as a result, we climb on back into that shell. So, do what you say you’re going to do!

This is my wake up face!

When we don’t do as we say, that’s when we begin to feel guilt, disappointment, frustration, embarrassment. I am here to tell you, you are most certainly not alone! Most of us fall into this rut, it’s how days slip by and we are no further ahead to attaining our goals. It’s a simple lack of commitment to self.

When we start doing what we say we are going to do, the stress goes away a little bit at a time. We start to feel good about ourselves. We then begin to get on out of our rut and our shell. As a result, YOU gain confidence!

The plan

Sounds simple right? Well, it can be. Until that little voice gets in there saying things like… you’re not good enough, or what’s it going to do, or is it even worth all the effort, the bed is comfy etc. etc. I have used them all the last few months!

I am here to tell you, NO MORE excuses. Rather, let’s get up, get moving and stay committed! The plan; let’s STAY committed together! Not GET committed, that would be a bad thing lol!

Above all, feel fee to at any time, reach out. You can find me on Facebook and/or on Instagram.

Lastly, thank you for reading and leave a comment if this article was interesting and let me know if you have suggestions for future topics!

Motivation is what gets you started. Commitment is what keeps you going.
